Covid effect: 75L students will suffer loss of learning in Bihar- The New Indian Express

PATNA: A Unicef estimate says nearly 75 lakh children in Bihar will experience learning loss in the midst of Covid-induced lockdown. This is so because as many as 31% of school students do not have access to digital devices to avail online classes.Nearly 7 lakh students are not expected to return to their schools, the Unicef study said. The adolescents (14-18-year-old), comprising nearly 5.49% girls and 0.26% boys, are expected to drop out of schools.
In a presentation to education officials, Prassana Ash, monitoring and evaluation specialist, and Pramila Manoharan, education specialist in Unicef Bihar, highlighted the scenarios related to the Covid-19 second and third wave and its impact on children’s learning.Citing some key point-estimations, they said nearly 75 lakh children in Bihar will experience learning loss; assuming 31% students do not have access to digital devices; 3 per cent or nearly 7 lakh students are not expected to return to school ....

Patna girl builds Medi-Robo to act as a bridge between docs & Covid patients- The New Indian Express

PATNA:  A 22-year-old Patna-born girl, Akanksha Kumari, has built a unique medical robot to help healthcare professionals and paramedic staff in treating Covid patients and others while stationed at a safe distance. Akanksha was helped by her father Yogesh, a hockey player, in developing and designing ‘Medi-Robo’. “My father arranged the hardware while I worked on the software and other features,” she says. The two started working on the contraption during last year’s lockdown.
Akanksha says Medi-Robo can help both, the healthcare professionals providing treatment to patients of highly infectious disease such as Covid- 19 as well as the paramedic staff in examining patients safely. She is an undergraduate student of electronics engineering from BIT Durg in Chhattisgarh. “I am deeply moved by the deaths of so many doctors while treating Covid patients. ....
