Bengali Filmmaker’s Malayalam film ‘Katti Nrittam’ is reaching its last leg of shooting after a long wait of one year. Aneek Chaudhuri started the shoot of the film in November 2019 and completed 80 percent of the film’s shoot by March 2020; then, the lockdown happened.
Katti Nrittam derives its name from Kathi Vesham (used in Kathakali referring to diabolic characters in the art form) and in this film, if we go by its literal meaning, it states ‘knife dance’. Katti Nrittam is a modern-day take on Mahabharata from a female gaze.
As per Aneek, “The epics, mythology evolve with time; it changes the era from being patriarchal to an equal society. This film is all about Draupadi’s revenge and here, we have portrayed Ved Vyas as a female.” ....

Anti-smoking drug may treat Parkinson's in women

The drug, called cytisine, commonly used in Europe, reduces the loss of dopamine neurons in women.
There are approximately 10 million people worldwide living with Parkinson’s disease, a neurodegenerative disorder that leads to a variety of symptoms that can include difficulty walking, tremors, shaking, and others unrelated to movement.
These symptoms start to develop when at least 50% of dopamine neurons in an individual’s brain are dead or impaired. Currently, there is no cure for Parkinson’s and no treatment that can stop or prevent the loss of these dopamine neurons needed for the body to move.
About a decade ago, Rahul Srinivasan, assistant professor in the neuroscience & experimental therapeutics department at Texas A&M University, became interested in trying to understand why smokers and people who consume tobacco chronically are at a lower risk for developing Parkinson’s disease. ....

These findings provide potential evidence for the use of the drug to treat Parkinson s disease or stop its progression in women.
