Oakland County expects to receive 6,700 doses of single-dose vaccines


 Oakland County has learned it will receive its first shipment of single-dose COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson by Wednesday, County Executive Dave Coulter announced Monday, March 1. Oakland County Health Division is expecting 6,700 doses.
 “These Johnson & Johnson doses arriving this week are another ray of hope,” Coulter said. “Our challenge is supply that does not meet our demand, and a third effective vaccine helps. We look forward to getting more doses into arms of Oakland County residents so we can emerge from the heavy cloud of the pandemic.”
 Oakland County Health Division will be working with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to determine the guidance for administering the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine. ....

Firefighters' decisions to get COVID-19 vaccine vary from 24% to 97%


“We have more demand for vaccine than we can meet,” the county medical director said.
Still,  Faust is fighting myths and doubts about the vaccines from segments of the public including medical workers.  A survey of local fire departments shows a range of hot and cold responses to getting the immunizations.
Oakland County prioritized the more than 3,000 licensed EMTs, which includes firefighters, as the COVID-19 vaccines rolled out in December.
But as of early February, participation rates among area fire departments  often the ones responding when an emergency 911 call is made   varied dramatically  from Northville Township with overwhelming support nearing 100% of the staff getting vaccinated, to Milford, where only 24% jumped at the chance. ....

Vaccinations for Holocaust survivors, other seniors offer hope for a new normal
West Bloomfield  With a quick jab from a nurse, Zoltan Rubin, 102, got what he came for.
Perfect, Rubin described feeling after nurse Debra Collins with the Oakland County Health Division gave him his first vaccine shot against COVID-19. Couldn t be better. No problems.
He is one of nearly 170 survivors of the Holocaust who received their first round of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine Friday, the result of a collaboration between Jewish Family Service and the Oakland County Health Division. 
Rubin, who will turn 103 on June 2, urged people to appreciate the time they have on this planet.  ....
