On June 2, 2021, President Volodymyr Zelensky introduced an urgent draft of the “Anti-Oligarchy” law, which would introduce a legal definition of an “oligarch” and place restrictions on their relations with political parties and participation in privatisation campaigns. If passed, the law would be in effect for ten years. The bill is expected to pass quickly in Parliament, where the President’s party, Servant of the People (Sluha Narodu, SN), has a majority.
The bill aims to increase transparency in the relationship between government and large domestic companies while also eliminating internal corruption. Individuals who participate in politics have media clout, hold economic assets with a monopoly position on the Ukrainian market, and own assets worth more than USD83 million are defined as oligarchs under the law. Holding government roles in the past, including positions outside the cabinet, such as prosecutors, security service ....

The Court of Cassation within the Supreme Court of Ukraine on Wednesday, May 26, continued the consideration of the case on appeal against President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky decree No. 64/2021 on the imposition of sanctions against MP (from the pro-Russian Opposition Platform – For Life faction) Viktor Medvedchuk.
“During the court session, the reporting judge said the State Security Service of Ukraine sent documents (confirming the existence of legal grounds for imposing sanctions against the plaintiff) to the security department of the Supreme Court, information from which constitutes an official secret,” the Supreme Court’s press service said.
