Representative image. MUMBAI: The Congress has demanded a fresh delimitation of electoral wards ahead of the 2022 BMC elections alleging that the delimitation was done in 2017 to favour the BJP. In a letter to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, Congress corporator Ravi Raja, who is the opposition leader in the BMC, has alleged that the delimitation exercise before the 2017 BMC polls was done to favour the BJP which was the ruling party in the state government then. Raja has demanded a fresh marking of ward boundaries. “The BMC elections were held in 2017. The then ruling party in the state government got the wards boundaries marked to favour them. The BJP misused power and got the wards marked in a way which would favour them electorally. This was done on purpose and so the BJP got 40-50 seats more than they would have got if there was a fair delimitation,” Raja said in his letter to CM Thackeray. ....

Jagtap, who is also a trade unionist, reminded that there was a time when Congress had 75 corporators in BMC. ââBut in the last 10 years, this number has come down to 30 to 35.
