Byron Shire councillors have voted to support a plan for a new skate park in Byron Bay.
At the council s ordinary meeting on Thursday, they voted unanimously to endorse a detailed design plan for the skate park and recreational precinct slated for the Sandhills Estate.
Mayor Simon Richardson said he was proud of the work that had been done on the plans.
The $2.6 million worth of planned works would completely transform the area, behind the Byron Library and the courthouse.

The completion of a new bus stop has marked a transformative step for Byron Bay.
The new Byron Bay bus interchange, on Butler St, cost $8.4 million, 50 jobs were involved in its construction and it will take hundreds of buses off Jonson St, member of the Legislative Council and parliamentary secretary for energy and the arts Ben Franklin said when he officially opened the facility on Monday.
Mr Franklin, who was representing Regional Transport and Roads Minister Paul Toole at the opening, applauded the end result of the interchange, which follows the completion of the Byron Bay Bypass, which opened in February after 30 years of planning, and the award-winning changes to Railway Park. ....

RESIDENTS will once again be permitted to attend Anzac Day public services following the cancellation of last year’s events amid strict lockdown.
Ipswich City Council revealed several commemorative COVID-safe events would return this Sunday to honour the occasion.
The main march through Ipswich CBD is set to take to the streets with a few minor adjustments including a shorter route.
A service will not take place at the conclusion of the march, which typically draws thousands of attendees annually.
The march will take place across Brisbane Street into Ellenborough Street, Darling Street East, West Street, Mary Street before ending at Timothy Moloney Park near St Mary’s Church. ....
