LIKE many stations across East Lancashire, the future looked bleak for the one at Foulridge when services ended in 1959. Once a relatively popular part of the Colne line offering trains to Skipton in one direction and Manchester Victoria in the other, Foulridge station which dated back to 1848, gradually fell into disrepair. But a new life was beckoning for the charming station building in sandstone with its twin pavilions - even if it did mean having to go ‘over the border’ to Yorkshire. For the station building was bought by the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. The heritage line had fine station buildings at Oxenhope, Keighley and Haworth but at Ingrow West the station buildings were fairly mundane and need of much repair. ....
SCHOOL children have been given a virtual tour of the Rail Story museums at Ingrow West Station. The initiative was the first of its kind since Covid guidelines forced the temporary closure of the Engine Shed and Vintage Carriage Works. Laycock Primary School was the first to receive the newly-developed guided tour – presented by Rail Story’s Matt Arnold, with Alexandra Stockdale-Haley behind the camera. The tour began at the Carriage Works, operated by the Vintage Carriages Trust. It included a look inside the early-20th-century Metropolitan carriages and the Great Northern guard’s van and 1898 first-class carriage – complete with en-suite toilet. ....
