Bhawna Jat to compete in 20 km walk at Olympics
All of Rajasthan will keep a close eye on the 20km race walk to be held in Tokyo Olympics on Aug 6. That’s because Bhawna Jat who hails from a poor farmer’s family at Kabra village in in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand district will be competing. She had qualified for the Olympics with a national record time at the National Championships in Ranchi last year. For the past several months, she has been training hard at the Sports Authority Centre in Bangalore. Her effort of qualifying for the Olympics has inspired many across the state. People in her village are holding prayers and can barely wait to see her on TV. Here’s wishing the best for Rajasthan’s daughter when she competes on the penultimate day of the Olympics !!
Vadodara: Decks have been cleared for setting up a new landfill site at Nandesari and a new fire station at Por industrial estate.
The state industries and mines department held a first-of-its-kind open house with representatives of various associations of Vadodara including Nandesari, Savli, Por, Ranoli, Makarpura, Waghodiya GIDC and office-bearers of Vadodara Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Federation of Gujarat Industries, Confederation of Indian Industry among others. Several problems that were general in nature were solved on the spot with an assurance that implementation will be done in 15-20 days.
The team led by M Thennasaran, vice-chairman and managing director of Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), Dr Rahul Gupta, industries commissioner visited Nandesari, Vadodara Enviro Channel Limited and other places on Friday in which issues pertaining to GIDC and Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) were discussed.
Vadodara: A 56-year-old cop died after a truck ran over him near Ranoli bridge on national highway 48 early on Tuesday morning. Deceased Rajendra Kumar Jaiswal was riding his motorcycle while coming to work when the incident occurred at about 10 am. According to the police, a tempo coming from the wrong side caused the fatal accident.
Jaiswal, a resident of Ranoli, was posted at Sama police station as assistant sub-inspector. When he reached the service road near Tapi Hotel, a tempo suddenly came from the wrong side. CCTV footage of the incident shows that Jaiswal then lost balance of his bike and he fell down on the road.
