Kolkata: Two first-time BJP MPs Nishith Pramanik and Jagannath Sarkar, who won in the West Bengal elections but didn’t take the oath last week, will resign from the Assembly to retain their Lok Sabha seats. This will bring down the BJP’s strength in the Assembly from 77 to 75.
The BJP central leadership, sources said, accepted the two MPs’ request to retain their Cooch Behar and Ranaghat parliamentary seats and not enter the Assembly.  Their absence at the May 7 swearing-in of new MLAs led to speculation about their intentions. ....

Two BJP MPs who were fielded in the recent assembly elections in Bengal and won, have quit their assembly seats. The decision was that of the party high command, which decided they would be more useful in parliament, sources indicated. The BJP leadership decided that the two Nishit Pramanik and Jagannath Sarkar will continue as MPs. The Trinamool has mocked the move as the BJP s bid to play safe in the Lok Sabha. With their resignation which reached the Speaker on Wednesday the BJP s tally of 77 MLAs in the Assembly is now down to 75. ....

Two BJP Lok Sabha members, who won in the recent West Bengal Assembly polls, on Wednesday tendered their resignation as MLAs before Speaker Biman Banerjee.
Cooch Behar MP Nisith Pramanik was elected from Dinhata and Ranaghat MP Jaganath Sarkar from Santipur. While Mr. Pramanik won by only a margin of 57 votes, Mr. Sarkar won by a margin of over 16,000 votes.
Both said they were resigning as MLAs as per the instructions of the party leadership. ....

Kolkata, May 12 : The BJP s MLA count in West Bengal came down to 75 from 77 on Wednesday after two of its MPs, who won the Assembly polls and became MLAs, decided to continue as parliamentarians and resigned from the legislative Assembly.
Cooch Behar MP Nisith Pramanik, who won from Dinhata in the district, and Jagannath Sarkar, BJP MP from Ranaghat who won from Santipur in Nadia district, tendered their resignation to Speaker Biman Banerjee in the state Assembly on Wednesday. ....
