The nation s accountable care organizations sent a letter last week to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, urging the agency to delay certain changes to quality reporting requirements for value-based payments. Backed by large, national medical groups, the letter warned that rushed implementation of these changes could deter new organizations from joining the shared-savings program or even cause organizations to leave it.
Accountable care organizations are groups of hospitals, physicians and health centers that work to improve health outcomes while reducing cost. Organizations that achieve savings are entitled to share them with CMS, and those that incur losses have to chip in. ....

Virtual restaurant start-up lands $7M in funding

Mealco, a NYC-based start-up allowing chefs and restaurants to create virtual restaurant concepts, has landed $7 million in seed funding to upgrade its technological infrastructure and expand to more locations. Investors include Rucker Park Capital with participation from FJLabs, which has invested in Uber, Postmates, Slice, Delivery Hero and Chowbus. Reshape, 2048.vc, Oceans Ventures, and WLP joined the round, together with angel investors such as Jonathan Zabusky, former CEO of Seamless, according to a company press release.
We had the opportunity to see the evolution of the food ecosystem firsthand in the past few years, Wes Tang-Wymer, general partner at Rucker Park Capital, said in the release. Mealco, a startup promising to help chefs launch new restaurants designed around delivery, is announcing that it has raised $7 million in seed funding.
It’s probably not news to anyone reading this that opening a restaurant can be an expensive, risky proposition and of course, many restaurants have gone out of business during the pandemic.
But founder and CEO Daniel Simon (who was previously a developer and product lead at Applicaster, and has also worked with Tel Aviv restaurant group R2M) said that even in the best of times, it can take $1 or $2 million to get started, and “if you want to hit the ground running, 98% of your focus is not on the food or the customers.” ....
