ANN ARBOR – The Washtenaw County Park and Recreation Commission announced on Tuesday the opening dates for several of its parks and attractions.
Due to a “significant seasonal staff shortage” as a result of the pandemic, Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission director Coy Vaughn said the opening of both the water park and spray park have been delayed until late June.
“We have an amazing, dedicated team of professionals working hard to open our facilities but continue to be challenged by the lack of seasonal workers,” Vaughn said in a release. ....

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The past year has been especially isolating for seniors in nursing homes. To help with this, those living at Gilbert Residence assisted living facility in Ypsilanti have been given robotic pets and new ways to connect with loved ones.
Gifted by the Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B), the electronic cats and dogs bring their owners comfort and companionship by purring, barking, blinking, wagging their tails and turning their heads. ....

WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – The Washtenaw County Health Department will hold five pop-up COVID-19 vaccine clinics around Washtenaw County over the next two weeks.
Each clinic will offer the Pfizer vaccine and will be open to anyone age 16 and older.
Community members should schedule appointments in advance but limited walk-up vaccines will be available during clinic hours, the Health Department said. ....

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The coronavirus pandemic has been hard on Michigan’s economy, especially small businesses.
The Michigan Ladder Company opened in 1901 on the shores of the Huron River in Ypsilanti. The company became the oldest and last wooden ladder manufacturer in the country.
“This is the kind of thing, as I’ve said to others, will haunt me for the rest of my life. What is it I could have done differently?” said owner Tom Harrison. “In the fourth quarter of 2019, China began shutting down and we didn’t understand that we had a pandemic on our hands.” ....
