Bill Dodd, D-Napa, to expedite improvements to the state’s outdated central water delivery system cleared a key committee hurdle. “California is updating its aging water infrastructure to meet the growing needs of a state that is now in the grips of drought,” Dodd said. “But it’s not happening fast enough. My bill helps meet demand by allowing more flexibility in contracting to expedite this process and keep the water flowing to our communities and farmers.” California’s 60-year-old water-delivery system, known as the State Water Project, serves more than 27 million people and 750,000 acres of farmland through its 700 miles of aqueducts, canals and pipelines. Divided Board of Supervisors weighs in on drug-treatment facility for felons Shares The Yolo County Board of Supervisors voted this week to support in principle legislation that would allow the county to create a secure drug treatment facility for felony offenders who would otherwise be incarcerated in jail or prison. The vote was narrow, with three supervisors in favor, one in opposition and one abstaining. AB 1542 was authored by Assemblyman Kevin McCarty, D-Sacramento, in partnership with Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig and Yolo County Supervisor Gary Sandy of Woodland. Sandy was joined by Supervisors Jim Provenza of Davis and Angel Barajas of Woodland in support of the bill, while Don Saylor of Davis opposed the motion and Oscar Villegas of West Sacramento abstained. ....
