Facts on Tuesday emerged about how Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Benin Republic, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.), was instrumental to the arrest of the Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho.
A top security source in the Benin Republic confided in The PUNCH that the former Chief of Army Staff wrote the government of the small West African country and insisted on the arrest and extradition of Igboho. ....

The Yoruba Global Alliance (YGA) has condemned the raid on the Soka premises of Mr. Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Igbogho Oosha, by a combined team of soldiers and Directorate of State Services (DSS) operatives, describing the invasion as an irrational surrender to barbarism, lawlessness and the flagrant abuse of the fundamental human right of the activist.
 
A detachment of about 100 heavily armed men in army uniform and Directorate of State Services (DSS) operatives had stormed the premises, shot their way in, ransacked, damaged and kidnapped seven people, including Adeyemo’s wife, while two people were killed during the raid and the corpses taken away. ....

Tributes as Odumakin, tireless rights activist, goes to rest

He was “…a committed fighter for democracy, dedicated civil society activist, courageous and outspoken defender of whatever ideals and principles he believed in and a patriotic citizen in every sense of the word.”
These were some of the words with which the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu described the late Yinka Odumakin who breathed his last on Saturday, April 3, following complications from COVID-19.
Indeed, Tinubu’s words succinctly captured Odumakin’s life and what he stood for. At every point in time, he spoke and defended his convictions without fear or favour, no matter whose ox is gored. In the many battles that he fought – and he did fight a handful, he was bold, fearless and stood tall. ....

Prominent Nigerians have continued to mourn the passage of the Spokesman of Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, who died at the weekend.
They include Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, a former National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and professor of Sociology Lai Olurode; Chairman, Afenifere Renewal Group, Wale Oshun and Chairman of Council of Yoruba Global Alliance, Akogun Tola Adeniyi.
Makinde described the death of Odumakin as personal loss of a good brother and a great loss to the Yoruba race.

While Oshun described Odumakin as a protector of the weak and oppressed, Adeniyi, a former Editor-in-Chief of Daily Times, said his death was shocking. ....
