CARRYING out analysis of the regional ballot is an interesting but entirely worthless exercise if all you are going to do is apply the usual “this view/that view” to the findings (Majority of Scots regions back indy in list vote, May 16).
“Backing for pro-independence parties and candidates reached over 50% in six out of eight areas of Scotland.” Yes it did/No it didn’t.
“Research shows votes for those supporting Yes was the highest in Glasgow, at 58%.” ....

the moment the Obama administration threatened the Swiss with SWIFT expulsion over opening up its vaunted banking privacy rules was the equivalent of a nuclear first strike.
Previous to this threat SWIFT was as unknown to most people as the most arcane aspects of particle physics. It was the means by which money magically moved around the world. Without it modern finance and trade couldn’t exist and politicization of it was anathema because of that.

Germany's Greens Edge Ahead of Merkel's Conservative Bloc in Voter Poll, Boosting Party Confidence

If it extends and holds that position, the party could be in charge of Germany s political, economic and, of course, environmental direction after the September 26 election.
Recent voter polls have placed the party in second place to the CDU-CSU. But one Forsa Institute survey of 1,502 people, conducted on Tuesday, put the Greens in the lead with 28% of the vote up 5 percentage points from a similar poll conducted between April 6-12. Support for the CDU-CSU had fallen 6 points to 21%, the same poll showed.
Poll aggregator Europe Elects noted on Twitter that if such a result were repeated in the election, it would be the first time since 2005 for Merkel s conservative alliance to not come first. ....
