Ovals’ lighting moves out of dark ages
Eurobodalla’s sports clubs can light up the night with ease thanks to a new control system being rolled out across the shire’s sports fields.
Eurobodalla Council’s facilities coordinator Paul Bladen said the new Halytech system lets club representatives turn sports field lights on and off with a simple text from their phone.
“Not only is it much easier to manage than the existing token system, but now clubs only get charged for the time they use the lights,” Mr Bladen said.
Under the token system, club members needed to purchase physical tokens from Council. Each token would run the sports field lights for a given period. ....

Record low flying foxes in Eurobodalla

Record low flying foxes in Eurobodalla
The number of flying foxes at known Eurobodalla camps were the lowest recorded since official counts started in 2012.
Around 3380 flying foxes were counted at the five camps – Batemans Bay water gardens, Catalina golf club, Moruya, Tuross Head, and Narooma – at the peak of the 2020-21 season, compared to 19,550 in 2019 and more than 250,000 in 2016.
Eurobodalla Council’s flying fox officer Natalie Foster said the low numbers of grey-headed flying foxes were likely due to food shortages in the shire following the 2019-20 bushfires.
“There were many reports of flying foxes lost during and after the bushfires with evidence supporting a significant reduction in the overall population,” Ms Foster said. The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment estimated 68,500 NSW flying foxes died due to drought, fire and heat stress in 2019-20. ....

Stay safe and steer clear of roadworks

Stay safe and steer clear of roadworks
Northern Eurobodalla residents are being urged to follow road closure directions amid reports of people putting themselves at risk by driving through Council’s George Bass Drive worksite at Grandfathers Gully.
Eurobodalla Council closed George Bass Drive at Lilli Pilli in June to enable it to safely undertake major earthworks to realign the road.
Council’s senior project engineer George Workman said at least once a day people were either ignoring or not noticing road closure signage and driving through the site – creating a potentially dangerous situation.
He explained that while the northern end of the worksite was fully blocked, the southern end must remain partially open to allow work vehicles to move in and out. ....
