Europa's Alien Ocean --"Fingerprints of Deadly Radiation Blasts from Jupiter Hint at Areas With Presence of Life"

Life in 2050: A Glimpse at Space in the Future

For instance, NASA will be using the Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion spacecraft to send astronauts back to the Moon starting in 2024. The core of the Gateway - the Power and Propulsion Element (PPE) and the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) - will also be launched by 2024 using a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.
Paired with a reusable lunar lander, this orbital habitat will allow for long-duration missions to the lunar surface. Between 2024 and 2028, NASA also intends to add the International Habitation Module (I-HAB), the European System Providing Refueling, Infrastructure and Telecommunications (ESPRIT), and possibly more modules to the Gateway. ....

Recent headlines aside, NASA’s most exciting interplanetary mission for the early 21st century is arguably not a robot named Perseverance presently roving around Mars gathering samples for a future return to Earth. Instead it is a spacecraft, just now on the verge of being built, that could launch later this decade to Europa, an enigmatic moon of Jupiter that boasts an enormous ocean bigger than all of Earth’s oceans combined beneath an icy crust. Called Europa Clipper, the mission could lift off as soon as 2024 to study the moon’s subsurface abyss with the goal of gauging its potential habitability and the distinct possibil ....

Kristo Kriechbaum stands near a copy of the Curiosity rover, which landed on Mars in 2012. He has worked for NASA for 15 years.
A 1995 Marietta High School graduate is getting to live out the dream of many kids who look to the stars for inspiration.
Kristo Kriechbaum, who now lives in Altadena, Calif., was “always kind of interested in engineering-type stuff.”
“I enjoyed playing with Legos and Tinker Toys,” he said.
The Mars Pathfinder rover was launched in the mid-1990s, which sparked Kristo’s interest.
“It was tiny, no bigger than a toaster oven,” he explained. “It blew my mind seeing this little robot on another planet millions of miles away.” ....
