Ceremony recognizes those who overcame obstacles to go on to attend a four-year university YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Graduation season kicked off in Yuma Wednesday night with a celebration of some of the Desert Southwest s best and brightest college students. Arizona Western College (AWC) held a La Cosecha event to recognize the achievements of students who will go on to finish their educations at a four-year university. The ceremony did more than commemorate their academic achievements in front of their classmates and loved ones, it also commended them for overcoming a variety of obstacles. The state is set to send up to 250 guardsmen to border communities to help with medical operations at detention centers, install and maintain border cameras, collect data from public safety cameras and analyze trends in known smuggling corridors, according to a news release from the governor’s office. ....
Ducey to visit Yuma Wednesday MGN Governor and delegation of Republican lawmakers to tour border, discuss security YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, (R), will come to Yuma Wednesday afternoon to tour the U.S./Mexico border and discuss security with city and county leaders. The governor announced his visit Tuesday after issuing a Declaration of Emergency that will send hundreds of Arizona National Guard members to the border to assist with medical care, maintenance, and data analysis. The Adjutant General of the state National Guard will join Gov. Ducey for the tour, as well a contingency of Republican state lawmakers. The group will also meet with Yuma Mayor Douglas Nicholls, and Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot. Members are expected to call out the Biden administration for what they call its failed leadership on the issue. ....
