Teamsters union files lawsuit against UPS Worldport in Kentucky over unsafe conditions On March 1, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) Local 2727 filed a lawsuit against UPS Airlines, alleging that it has not resolved serious sanitation problems at its Worldport hub in Louisville, Kentucky. The complaint refers to “serious, chronic sanitary concerns” during the COVID-19 pandemic that put flight crew workers in an environment where they have a high risk of becoming infected with the coronavirus. The 30-page lawsuit says that “The Union seeks injunctive relief herein to prevent the potential loss of life or serious injury of its members and indeed, the public at large because of the Company’s intentional disregard for their well-being.” ....
The pandemic slowed down many peopleâs lives due to social distancing and work-from-home orders. For postal and delivery companies though, COVID-19 caused a different trend. With the growing demand for COVID-19 vaccines and the e-commerce sector soaring like never before, the delivery sector is among the busiest these days. âWe are working hard to satisfy the needs of the public,â said UPS spokesperson Dan McMackin. âWe are delivering essential items; things people need to live their lives and run their businesses. We are delivering medicine and meal kits and so much more.â COVID-19 has massively accelerated the growth of e-commerce. According to data from the U.S. Commerce Department, consumers spent $199.44 billion online with U.S. retailers during the third quarter of 2020. This equaled an uptick of 37.1% from $145.47 billion for the same quarter the prior year. ....
