Tributes to Veronica Farnell, life and soul of Thornton | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

ANYONE passing Veronica Farnell s Thornton house always got a friendly greeting, and her bright bunting was a cheery sight in the village.
Now tributes have been paid to Veronica, a Thornton resident for 70 years, who has died after a short illness, aged 88. She was born in 1932 and lived at Heap Lane, Undercliffe, attending St Mary s School. Her mother died in 1943 when Veronica was 11, and her father left the Army to look after his four daughters. In an interview with Bradford photographer Mark Davis when she was 83, Veronica looked back on her wartime childhood. Dad was a soldier looking after girls. He was never an untidy man and it was the same with us girls. If we d been lads we d all have been in the Army, she said. ....

Head boy Alfie Lord brings some Christmas cheer to The Skipton Academy with treats for all pupils

THE head boy of The Skipton Academy, Alfie Lord, is bringing some Christmas cheer to his peers by organising a special raffle and Christmas breakfast for all pupils tomorrow (Friday).
Alfie said: It is really important this year that young people have something to smile about. This term has been challenging and I wanted to do something for everyone at TSA.
He approached some local businesses and was able to get prizes for the raffle. On top of that Le Bistro Des Amis offered to make the breakfasts. All pupils will be asked to select from a bacon roll, pain au chocolat or croissant to get their last day of school before the Christmas holidays off to a great start. ....
