Portland arts fans with long memories will remember Gavin Larsen, a principal dancer at Oregon Ballet Theatre for seven seasons in the 2000s. Known for her musicality, precision and grace, she became closely associated with a number of roles, including several classics by legendary choreographer George Balanchine.
When she retired in 2010, Larsen shifted from performing to teaching, a poetic turn since she danced her first steps when she was 8 years old at the New York School of Ballet under the watchful gaze of other retired dancers. ....
