New York State Senate Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins says she’s determined to steer the chamber through budget negotiations with Governor Andrew Cuomo, even though the governor has ignored her calls to resign over a sexual harassment scandal.
The Senate Leader, along with most of the majority party Democrats in the chamber, have called for Cuomo to leave after multiple women have alleged he sexually harassed them or behaved inappropriately. Stewart-Cousins says nevertheless, the state budget, which includes plans to help New Yorkers beat COVID-19 and improve the economy , has to be finished by the March 31 deadline, and she will need to work with the governor’s office to do it. ....

Gov. Andrew Cuomo responded to louder calls for his resignation over the weekend- as more allegations were brought against him amid a sexual harassment scandal.
New York State Senate Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, a Democrat, declared on Sunday that Gov. Cuomo should resign.
“Every day, there is another account that is drawing away from the business of government,” Stewart-Cousins said. “We need to govern without daily distraction. Governor Cuomo must resign.” ....

New York State Senate Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. New York State Senate Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins has called on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign, and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said the governor should consider voluntarily stepping down, after two new allegations of inappropriate behavior from more women over the weekend.
But Cuomo said he has no plans to voluntarily leave office and has too much important work to do to let the accusations “distract” him.
Stewart-Cousins said “every day there is another account” of “allegations about sexual harassment, a toxic work environment” and questions over the governor’s handling of nursing home death data during the COVID-19 pandemic. She said the growing distractions are impeding the business of government. ....
