Trees have always been a point of conflict between colonisers and Indigenous people.
At the very beginning of European-Indigenous interactions, skirmishes broke out because colonisers were ignorant of protocols and the desecration of important Indigenous sites and habitats. In the 19th century, as frontiers pushed west into the Country of Wiradjuri, colonists were indifferent to the sanctity of marked trees.
As a news article from the Daily Advertiser in 1941 reported:
The only carved tree […] unfortunately fell victim to the advancing tide of civilisation and was cut up and converted into railway sleepers that now possibly lie somewhere along the line between Yanco and Hay, or Leeton and Griffith. ....

Basin State Water Ministers today agreed to re-examine two major water efficiency projects under the Murray Darling Basin Plan to better future-proof their success.
Basin states will publish a report examining key projects including the Menindee Lakes and Yanco Creek Offtake Regulator Sustainable Diversion Limit Adjustment Mechanism (SDLAM) projects – two of the major projects within the Plan.
Ministers have recognised the unique sensitvies around Menindee and Yanco and have agreed that NSW will have an additional two months to re-work those projects.
Additionally, all Ministers welcomed NSW’s proposal to accelerate five projects that will deliver up to 45GL by 2024, with the Commonwealth agreeing to fast-track funding in support of these projects. ....

Farmer insights to help boost red meat production
NSW farmers have been asked to inform research which aims to underpin the state’s multi-billion dollar red meat industry in a changing and variable climate by integrating tropical perennial grasses into grazing systems.
NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) senior research scientist, Suzanne Boschma, said an online survey is now open until April18.
“Responses from farmers who have little or no experience with tropical perennial pastures and those who have sown or currently manage these grasses are welcome,” Dr Boschma said.
“Farmers’ input will be used to develop the agronomy packages and guidelines they need to successfully establish and manage tropical grasses in central and southern NSW.” ....
