Attempted murder suspect dies in custody
Shane Earl Rader, 46, who was accused of trying to kill his family, was found unresponsive in his cell in the Yamhill County Jail Tuesday evening.
According to the Yamhill County Sheriff s Office, deputies immediately began lifesaving measures, but Rader was pronounced dead at the scene.
He had been in custody since mid-June on multiple charges of attempted aggravated murder and domestic violence. He was arrested after going to a rural Newberg residence and shooting one of his young sons, leaving the boy hospitalized with serious injuries. 
Yamhill County Sheriff Tim Svenson  requested the assistance of the Newberg-Dundee Police Department in investigating the incident. ....

Second missing swimmer found in Willamette
Both men who were lost in the Willamette River Saturday during the heat wave have been found dead.
The body of Nasiruddin Shaik, 37, was located about noon today half a mile downriver from where he was seen near the Wheatland Ferry.
He was last seen struggling in the river near the ferry Saturday evening.
Shaik was located by a drone deployed by Yamhill County Search and Rescue. Rescuers waded into the river to retrieve his body in an area that was inaccessible to boats.
Earlier, the body of Thomas Paul Stavrum, 51, of Lafayette, was found near the Highway 219 bridge, about a mile downriver from Roger s Landing in Newberg. ....

Salem logs 30 heat-related injury calls


Heat-related injuries included symptoms of heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and heat exposure, Walsh said.
Statewide, Oregon Health Authority officials reported a sharp increase in emergency department and urgent care visits for heat-related illnesses between June 25 and 27, according to the state s health data. The report recorded about 25 hospital visits on June 25, nearly 60 on June 26 and about 130 on June 27. 
“Heat exhaustion happens when your body isn’t able to regulate its own temperature and it begins to rise, Dr. Caroline King-Widdall said in a statement, released last week by Kaiser Permanente Northwest.  This can happen when you’re working out rigorously or when you’re doing yard work outside on a hot day. ....

While Portland reached a record temperature of over 110 degrees Sunday afternoon, people gathered at Keller Fountain Park to take a dip and cool off.
“When will this be over?” was the question likely on every Portlander’s mind Monday as temperature records fell for a third-straight day.
The historic heat wave overwhelming the region led to all-time high temperatures records falling across the state over the weekend and on Monday.
Portland hit 115 degrees Monday afternoon, setting a new record high temperature for the third day in a row, according to the National Weather Service. Before the weekend, Portland’s record high temperature was 107, first set in 1965. ....
