Rainfall events over the last 30 days improved soil moisture levels for drought-stricken parts of the state but also left standing water and soggy, saturated soil conditions in others, according to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service reports.
Much of the state has received multiple inches of precipitation from multiple storm systems since late April. Those storms delivered much-needed rainfall and subsequently improved soil moisture indexes in drought-stricken areas. But the deluge has delayed plantings and harvests in other parts of the state, as well as causing flooding and a range of other problems and potential problems for producers. ....

Del Rio, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station encountered five unaccompanied children near Normandy, May 9.
“It is heartbreaking to find such small children fending for themselves in the middle of nowhere,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero II. “Unfortunately this happens far too often now. If not for our community and law enforcement partners, these little girls could have faced the more than 100-degree temperatures with no help.”
A Border Patrol agent assigned to the Eagle Pass Station was performing line watch operations when he responded to a call from a Maverick County constable concerning five undocumented migrant children near Normandy. The agent quickly responded and located the five female children – three Honduran nationals age 7, 3, 2 and; two Guatemalan nationals ages 5 a ....

On Sunday, when temperatures were expected to hit over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the Eagle Pass Station Border Patrol got a call from a Maverick County constable about five girls being found near Normandy, Texas, reported CBS News.
An officer did meet the children, whose ages range from 11 months to seven years old. Three of them are from Honduras, with the other two are from Guatemala. ....

A farmer in Quemado, Texas says he found 5 young migrant girls dumped on his property this past weekend. Quemado is located in Maverick County and has a population of 243 people according to a 2000 census.
Farmer Jimmy Hobbs gave an interview to Texas Congressman Tony Gonzalez who then posted the video to his Facebook page. Hobbs said he was driving along his property line and saw the young girls on the bank of the river:

Five Migrant Children Discovered Alone at Southern Border
Smugglers left the young girls from Guatemala and Honduras near the Rio Grande, where they were found by a farmer.
Five unaccompanied migrant children were found along the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. A Border Patrol agent responded to a call from a Maverick County constable about young children, and found five girls a 7-, 3- and 2-year-old from Honduras and a 5-year-old and 11-month-old from Guatemala. Smugglers left the girls near the Rio Grande, according to Guatemala’s Foreign Ministry. CBP said the children didn’t require medical attention and were transferred to the Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday. The farmer who made the first call said he believes if he didn’t find the girls, he doesn’t think they would survived. CNN  ....
