Legal counsel could face sanctions after admitting client had judge investigated

“The legal profession is governed by different codes of professional conduct in each province,” said Kennedy. “However, there is extraordinary overlap between them and the principle of judicial independence is applicable across the country.”
In a joint statement, the Canadian and Manitoba Bar Associations condemned the JCCF’s behaviour, saying it had no place in the conduct of a trial. The incident, they said, also raises serious security concerns for the judiciary, officers of the court and court staff. It is particularly disturbing that the location of Joyal’s home and private cottage were known.
“Judicial independence is a crucial legal principle that guarantees judges have the freedom to make their decisions based solely on the facts and the laws,” said CBA President Brad Regehr and MBA President Ian Scarth in the statement. “Judicial independence is precisely that which guarantees the rights and freedoms of every person in Canada. ....

'Make a positive impact': Flin Flon-born doc strives for career in rural medicine

Clark, 25, just graduated from medical school with the goal of practicing in a northern or rural Manitoba community.
“Growing up in that setting really made me aware of the need for physicians in Flin Flon and smaller communities,” she said.
Clark had little interaction with the health-care system herself as a child and teenager growing up in Flin Flon.
The daughter of two teachers, she was an outgoing youth with a passion for sports and the outdoors. When she wasn’t playing soccer or volleyball, she could often be found camping or enjoying nature with friends.
Clark first took an interest in medicine as a grade 9 student at Hapnot Collegiate. She was drawn to the more focused science courses and, given her passion for sports, envisioned entering the field of sports medicine. ....

Some stories take longer to get around to than others.
In the fall of 2011 I hooked up with Fiona Odlum at an Academy Road Starbucks for a lighthearted feature about people who report on traffic for a living. Odlum, currently a contributor at CBC Saskatchewan, was working for 680 CJOB at the time, clueing rush-hour commuters in on stalls, lane closures and fender-benders they’d be wise to avoid.
Odlum turned the tables at one point by asking a few questions of her own including, So, what’s your main beat? ....

Protecting Those Pearly Whites: All About Tooth Enamel Erosion. : ThyBlackMan.com

(
ThyBlackMan.com) Tooth enamel is the hard outer layer on teeth that protects them from wear and tear. It is an incredibly strong substance. In fact, it is the strongest substance in our bodies. However, it can still become damaged with relative ease through regular acid attacks caused by food and drink.
Enamel protects the dentine underneath, and when dentine becomes exposed it can become painful or sensitive. You may find that your teeth become sensitive to heat or cold and other problems like decay and cavities can affect your teeth.
So what do you need to know about tooth enamel erosion to ensure your teeth stay strong and healthy? ....

Changes to Canada's assisted dying laws could undermine basic standard of care » MercatorNet

As Parliament discusses Bill C-7’s expansion of the Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) Act, one issue has been conspicuously absent from public debate, even though it has major implications for medicine and for patients: the impact of the bill on the role of the medical profession in determining the standard of care, as it applies to MAiD.
The government introduced Bill C-7 in response to the decision of Quebec Superior Court Justice Christine Beaudouin (in the
Truchon case), who ruled unconstitutional the current law’s limiting of MAiD to those whose natural death is “reasonably foreseeable”.
Bill C-7 addresses Justice Beaudouin’s finding which in our opinion should have been appealed instead by introducing a second track of access to MAiD for people with chronic illness or disability whose death is  ....
