These are the times through which we are navigating our way these days and, actually, there was atmosphere in Ballybrit over the last couple of days. It’s not the normal Galway buzz, but it’s something. Some people is a significant step up on no people. ....

THIRTY-FOUR wins, 25 second places, 32 thirds and 42 fourth placed finishes that earned over half a million in prizemoney during the 2020/21 National Hunt season have ensured that Simon Torrens was crowned Conditional Champion jockey in Ireland.
The Castlederg native enjoyed a number of high-profile handicap wins during the season, notably at the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown in February where he partnered the Pat Fahy-trained Drop The Anchor to win the Ladbrokes Hurdle and A Wave Of The Sea, trained by Joseph O’Brien, to win the Matheson Handicap Chase, both horses owned by JP McManus. ....

Donn McClean leaves no stone unturned as he runs the rule over every single horse in the BoyleSports Irish Grand National, settling on Jack Kennedy s mount, Run Wild Fred.
BoyleSports Irish Grand National Chase (Grade A)
When: 5.00pm, Easter Monday
Odds:
Latest Exhibition (Trainer: Paul Nolan – Jockey: Bryan Cooper)
A top class novice who also had Sunday’s Grade 1 two-and-a-half-mile novices’ chase as an option, he was a Grade 1 winner last season as a novice hurdler, and he has finished second to Monkfish in Grade 1 chases twice this season. The defection of Tiger Roll and the resultant raising of the weights was not ideal, but he is a top class individual who could still run a big race under his big weight, and it is interesting that his trainer is fitting cheekpieces for the first time. ....

Three bets for our man on the opening day of the Dublin Racing Festival including a 40/1 chance trained by Gordon Elliott.
Racing betting tips: Saturday, February 6
1.05 Leopardstown – Cape Gentleman at 7/1
3.15 Leopardstown – Abacadabras at 8/1
3.50 Leopardstown – Eclair De Beaufeu at 40/1 (each-way)
It is only three years since the Dublin Racing Festival came into being in its current guise. The races were there all right, but they were scattered across disparate weekends, three meetings spread across five or six weeks. It was only in 2018 that they were all brought together and presented in one weekend of top class National Hunt racing, and perfectly positioned at the mid-point in the run between Christmas and Cheltenham. ....
