Blue Mountains City Council, in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has launched a new public education campaign to raise awareness of illegal dumping in our region.
The campaign will be rolled out through July and August and will be seen on buses as well on social media, in the form of a campaign video.
When members of community illegally drop items such as couches, mattresses, fridges and construction waste into reserves and bushland, the environmental, social and financial costs to the community are profound.
Fortunately, there are teams that are working hard to combat this problem. ....

Tobago authorities to work closer with police to deter crowds

The Tobago House of Assembly division of Health, Wellness and Family Development will be collaborating even more with the police in the upcoming weeks to enforce the covid19 health regulations.
On Friday, the division reported there were 62 active covid19 cases in Tobago, the largest number since the onset of the pandemic in mid-March 2020.
Addressing the division’s virtual health briefing on Friday, Secretary of Heath, Wellness and Family Development Tracy Davidson-Celestine said the measures that are already in place to prevent the spread of the virus must be enforced. ....

Cheyenne Patino-Ubeda wants to compete at Olympics
Cheyenne Patino-Ubeda has been surfing since she was six years old.
But her love for sports and fitness doesn’t stop there. She does gymnastics, goes skateboarding with her dad, does trail biking and even does total resistance exercises.
Cheyenne who is now nine lives in Buccoo, Tobago and is a standard two student at Tobago International Academy.
She told Newsday Kids, “I like riding big waves and sometimes, when I ride the waves, I see turtles.”
But even though she likes riding big waves, she admits it can sometimes get scary, especially if a big wave is approaching her and she can’t ride it. Luckily, she has a technique that helps her ride out the situation. ....
