PHOTOGRAPHS COURTESY PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL SHORTFEST Unforgivable, the story of a gang member serving time in Salvordoran prison who is gay, earned the Greater Palm Springs CVB Best of the Festival Award announced June 27 at the closing ceremonies of the Palm Springs International ShortFest at the Palm Springs Cultural Center. The film received one of five Academy Award qualifying awards while awards and cash prizes worth $25,000 were presented to the winners selected from the 295 shorts films that screened. The winners by category included: Greater Palm Springs CVB Best of the Festival Award - Winner received $5,000 cash prize courtesy of the Greater Palm Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau. Jury: Bérangère Mc Neese (actor, director, and screenwriter - 2020 ShortFest award winner in this category); Ania Trzebiatowska (programmer at the Sundance Film Festival). ....
Unforgivable Takes Home Top Prize at Palm Springs ShortFest Ellise Shafer, provided by FacebookTwitterEmail “Unforgivable,” a film hailing from El Salvador, won the best of the festival award during the 2021 edition of the Palm Springs International ShortFest. Directed by Marlén Viñayo, “Unforgivable” follows a hitman for the 18th Street gang as he serves his sentence in an evangelical Salvadorian prison, where he is punished not only for his crimes, but for being gay. Selected by a jury consisting of 2020 ShortFest best of festival winner Bérangère Mc Neese and Sundance Festival programmer Ania Trzebiatowska, “Unforgivable” will receive a $5,000 cash prize. The honorable mention in the best of festival category went to French film “Palma.” ....
