Somernites Cruise rolls in this weekend for 21st season

Last year s first Somernites Cruise of the season took place in July (pictured here). This year, things are back on track, with the April show taking place this weekend in Somerset.

The threat of April showers is nothing compared to what Somernites Cruise dealt with last year.
Last April, the popular local downtown classic and custom car show found itself canceling a weekend of activities for the first time ever, due to concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus amid shutdowns and cancellations all across the country. 
In fact, the Cruise — usually as dependable as the sun in the sky and the moon at night — missed three shows last year, holding the first event of the milestone 20th season in July.  ....

Judge Ronald Blaine Stewart passed from this life into the presence of the Savior whom he loved on April 3, at the age of 87. All who knew Stewart knew him to be a man of extraordinary kindness and integrity, intelligence and fair-mindedness.
Stewart’s long judicial career, both in military and civilian service, earned him many honors and recognitions. Stewart retired from a 30-year career in the U. S. Army having served in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps as a trial lawyer, then military judge, where he tried cases on three continents and across the United States.    
Stewart was named “The Outstanding Trial Judge in the United States” for special courts in May 1984 when he was awarded the Franklin N. Flaschner Judicial Award presented by the National Conference of Special Court Judges of the American Bar Association, an honor viewed as the “Pulitzer Prize” among judges in courts that are special, or limited jurisdiction. He was the only military judge a ....

Judge Ronald Blaine Stewart, former three-term District Judge, 34th District, for Whitley and McCreary Counties, passed away April 3, 2021. Stewart was 87 years old.
Stewart was known for his extraordinary kindness and integrity, intelligence and fair-mindedness. Those who stood before him in his courtroom were treated with patience, making sure each understood the legal process that involved them.
Born and raised in Williamsburg in a home with no running water, no gas or electric, and no family car. Stewart loved his hometown and the people that knew him well, knowing the contribution they had made to his life. ....

Participants will be picking up litter on Highway 90.
“We are excited about the Cumberland Falls Cleanup,” said Whitley County Judge-Executive Pat White. “They are planning on proceeding with it with some adjustments to the normal event to be safe during COVID.”
Last year’s Spring cleanup was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are thrilled that we are going to be able to do the Spring Cleanup this year,” said Maggy Kriebel, the director of Corbin Tourism. “As you can imagine, where we had to can the event last year due to Coronavirus, the amount of trash and litter that has built up inside and around the park is atrocious.” ....
