Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on Monday accused corporations of siding with Democrats’ portrayal of the law as the new Jim Crow, which he called an attempt to “mislead and bully the American people.” He argued that it would expand, not restrict, voter access to the polls, and his statement included a threat of unspecified “serious consequences” if companies continued to take sides opposite Republicans on a variety of issues. ....

were among quickest form of all Cabinet members being being put in place. We have a lot to discuss, but while the press is here, I want to make one announcement. Yesterday in Pittsburgh, I laid out my vision for rebuilding America and American with American jobs program. And while most of the Cabinet will have a role in helping shape and press the jobs plan today, I m announcing that I m asking five Cabinet members to take special responsibility to explain the plan to the American public. Working with my team here in the White House, these Cabinet members will represent me and dealing with Congress, engage the public and selling the plan and help work out the details as we refine it and move forward. These ....

McConnell on MLB's Georgia boycott: These woke corporations risk "serious consequences"

Meh. Even when they’re right to be angry, I disdain legislators threatening businesses for their politics. If McConnell wants to take away Major League Baseball’s antitrust exemption or raise corporate taxes to make sure companies pay their “fair share,” why does he need some cultural grievance to spur him to do it? Do it because it’s good economics.
And if he doesn’t believe it’s good economics, why would he let a cultural grievance entice him into doing needless economic damage to some sector?
Ironically, I think the Republican politician who’s best handled the aftermath of MLB pulling the All-Star Game out of Georgia is Trump. He didn’t call for legislative action or make any policy threats; he called for a grassroots boycott of Major League Baseball by Republican voters. (He also insisted that the election was rigged, but what else is new?) That’s the way t ....

So far this year, many Anchorage voters are taking their time returning their ballots, if they decide to vote in the municipal election at all.
As of Wednesday, 21.7% fewer ballots had been returned to the city’s election center compared to the same
time
before the election in 2018, data from the municipal clerk’s office show.
Deputy Municipal Clerk Erika McConnell said that this year, ballot envelope return totals are lower than 2020 and 2018 to date, but higher than 2019.
During the city’s first mail-in election in 2018, when Anchorage voters elected former Mayor Ethan Berkowitz to a second term, voter turnout smashed the city’s previous record from 2012. ....
