US burger giant In-N-Out has accused an Australian business of engaging in misleading or deceptive conduct and trademark infringement by selling burgers and fries on three delivery services as “In & Out Aussie Burgers”.
The burger chain is suing Rich Asians Pty Ltd and businessman Puneet Ahori in the Federal Court, alleging the operator passed itself off as In-N-Out when it sold food on Uber Eats, DoorDash and Menulog in at least four locations in Queensland. ....

“My logo is ‘In & Out Aussie Burgers’,” he said.
“I’m a small operator in Queensland, and they’re basically pressuring me to de-register all the names I have.”
He then shot himself in the foot spectacularly by clarifying that the name was in fact used at five different locations, not the initial four that the American brand’s lawyers had originally believed.
The Federal Court judge suggested to Mr Ahori – who is not a lawyer – that seeking legal advice would be beneficial before the next court date, as the case involves “technical areas of law”. Mr Ahori said that he will do his best to research how to prepare his defence ahead of its due date in two weeks, and the next court date in September if mediation is unsuccessful. ....

Queensland man charged with possessing child abuse material 28 July
A 21-year-old Moreton Bay region man is expected to face court today (Wednesday, 28 July 2021) charged with child abuse-related offences following a Brisbane-based Australian Federal Police operation.
The investigation began in early 2021 after the AFP-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) received a report from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the USA regarding child abuse material allegedly being accessed and transmitted via Twitter and being stored on devices and online accounts.
AFP child protection investigators allegedly identified a Queensland man in connection with this material. In April 2021, the AFP executed a search warrant at the man’s Morayfield home and seized one smartphone and a laptop. ....

New mRNA Covid vaccine trial to begin soon

USC Clinical Trials will soon begin a trial of a potential new mRNA vaccine formulation for COVID-19 at its Morayfield centre.
The potential new vaccine could add to the arsenal of vaccines being used to control the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the global community. It will be tested across four clinical trial centres in Australia, as well as centres in North and Central America.
USC Clinical Trial’s Principal Investigator Dr Rob Scott will oversee the phase one trial that will assess the level of immune response generated by the investigational new vaccine. ....
