THE Mail readers have given their view after another high street store has announced its departure from Barrow. The Pandora store, based in Portland Walk will shut next month after five years of trading in Barrow’s town centre. In a post shared online, the chain announced that it will close its doors for the final time on Wednesday, June 30. It is of a number of businesses to leave the area. We asked our readers if they would miss the jewellery store. Helen Carter said: “Not really, but it s yet another empty shop no wonder people don’t go town much.” ....
READERS have expressed mixed opinions after Barrow s multi-million-pound Marina Village plan took a step forward. The scheme has been in the pipeline since 2007 and now a scoping report has been published which has sought the views of relevant organisations ahead of works to get the site ready ahead of marketing it to private investors. GP Rose said: This is older than the Morecambe Bay Bridge project. Stuart Balfour said: People tend to be sceptical when for more years than they can remember they see grand schemes and plans rolled out and paraded time and time again yet look around the town to see it rotting in front of their eyes. These views aren t changed by keeping making promises making more plans they are changed by actually seeing a scheme or plan done and done well , if anyone would like to point me in the direction of where one of these has happened in the last 30-40 years that would be great. ....
READERS had their say on a long-mooted plan designed to regenerate Barrow. The Marina Village plan is one of seven key projects chosen for further development through the £25m Brilliant Barrow initiative to help transform the town. The scheme has been in the pipeline since 2007 and could include around 650 homes and new leisure facilities. Michael P Cassells: “When you’re about to make a negative comment please take a moment to think of how you are helping attract investment and new people to Barrow. The development is part of a borough-wide plan which includes community hubs, national arts and cultural projects and business developments. Key to this has been promoting Barrow borough as welcoming and innovative. By all means ask questions and express a view but give your town a bit of love.” ....
