Board approves five more years of north chain weed removal assessments

The Daily Reporter In two hearings Saturday, Hodunk-Messenger Lake Board found it necessary to continue to provide weed control for the north chain of Branch County lakes and adopt an annual budget and assessments for 2022-26.  Only a few people appeared at the Coldwater Township pavilion for the meeting. Consultant Paul Hausler of Progressive AE, manager of the projects, oulined the necessity of the program and the proposed $154,000 annual cost.   Terry Reen, president of the lake association, said the proposed assessment will be $183 for waterfront lots. “This to adjust for the increased costs and is a 2% cost of living increase, Reen said.

Saranac man taken to hospital after Boston Township crash Sentinel Staff BOSTON TWP. A 93-year-old Saranac man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a crash with a large farm vehicle Wednesday in Boston Township, according to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office.  The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office and Saranac Community Fire Department responded to the crash at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, at the intersection of West Grand River Avenue and Morrison Lake Road.  Police say the Saranac man was traveling south and failed to yield to a large farm vehicle heading east. He was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
