(KTIV) - A Monona County, Iowa man convicted of fatally shooting a teenager with a shotgun wants a new trial.
Jay Lee Neubaum was convicted on May 20 on second-degree murder in the 2020 death of 16-year-old Joseph Hopkins.
Last month, a hearing was held to determine if Neubaum can face life in prison, since the incident happened when he was a minor.
Hopkins was shot to death by Neubaum on Jan. 31, 2020 in the 300 block of South 5th Street in Mapleton, Iowa.
A sentencing date for Neubaum has not been set.

Sioux City Journal: The Port of Blencoe, which officially opened Wednesday, has already seen a few barges in and out of that stretch of the upper Missouri River for the first time in over 15 years. Western Iowa farmers now have access to a lower-cost option to receive fertilizer and to export grains at the new “gateway to the world market.” NEW Cooperative constructed an $11 million port along the Missouri River near the small Monona County town of Blencoe, which is about halfway between Council Bluffs and Sioux City. It is the northernmost port on the nearly 760-mile span of the Missouri from St. Louis to Sioux City.
PISGAH, Iowa (KTIV) - A Nebraska man has died after a motorcycle crash Wednesday in Monona County, Iowa.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 68-year-old Stephen Hendricks of Columbus, Nebraska died after colliding with a semi.
The ISP says the crash happened on Highway 183 north of the Harrison County, Iowa line at about 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The crash report states a Jeep driven by 78-year-old Barba Rice of Moorhead, Iowa was traveling northbound on Highway 183. Behind Rice was Hendricks driving his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Authorities say a third vehicle, a semi driven by 25-year-old Derek Henschen of Ute, Iowa, was behind the motorcycle and Jeep, and began passing them by going into the southbound lane.
