January 28, 2021 · 0 Comments By Peter Richardson, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter The Credit Valley Conservation Authority (CVC) had a far from normal year in 2020, as it faced the unusual challenges brought about by COVID-19 CVC CAO, Deborah Martin-Downs and former Deputy CAO Mr. Jeff Payne presented their organization’s 2021 Budget to Mono Council during its meeting on Jan. 12, which began with the pair sharing some of the unprecedented difficulties presented in 2020. With COVID-19 and its many restrictions, 2020 was a different year for the CVCA, however they made the required digital transformation to adapt and continued to plan for the future, while connecting people with nature. ....
January 14, 2021 · 0 Comments By Peter Richardson, Local Journalism Initiative Mono Council once again had to deal with the ongoing debate as to who is responsible for enforcing regulations in the matter of resident Mark Bates’ request to have Council enforce the Town By-law concerning lighting interfering with a neighbours enjoyment of their property. This issue was previously discussed at the last Council Meeting, where the consensus was that, as the issue involved neighbours in a condominium complex, the condominium board should be responsible to enforce their own regulations regarding the matter. At Tuesday’s Mono Council meeting, Mr. Bates returned and indicated that the board was unwilling to enforce the regulations and asked Council to enforce the Town by-law to correct the problem. ....
December 10, 2020 · 0 Comments By Peter Richardson, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Parking problems on Third Line at Mono Cliffs Provincial Park was top of mind at Mono Council’s meeting on Tuesday. The issue has been of growing concern this year, aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic’s restrictions on most forms of recreation. With outdoor hiking being one of the few things people can still do, the Park has seen a dramatic increase in use this year, especially on weekends. Unfortunately, the parking lot can only accommodate perhaps, 150 cars and so the overflow has been lining both sides of Third Line and seriously restricting road access for not only cars, but for the frequent agricultural machinery that also traverses the Third Line. In addition, local residents have been complaining about trespassing, littering and even individuals using people’s front yards to relieve themselves. ....
December 10, 2020 · 0 Comments By Peter Richardson, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter A presentation was delivered to Mono Council last Tuesday regarding the refurbishing of the washroom in Monora Park. During the presentation, Kim Heaton, Director of Recreation, presented Council with a proposed budget of the refurbishment for $24,725. Because the building would be used by the public, it had to go through the usual building code procedures and trade work had to be completed by licensed contractors, which accounted for some added expense over being done in-house. Coun. Ralph Manktelow felt that the price was rather high and asked for a breakdown and was told that the structure required almost a rebuild as opposed to just a renovation, plus the added building code costs accounted for the total. ....
