The RDA says throughout the weekend there were a consistent 15-20 people milling around down at Peace Plaze and being socially distant while enjoying the ice sculptures and taking pictures. Director of events Monika Kopet says even if people aren’t brave enough to come down the RDA hopes they ll participate in the Buy a Meal, Give a Meal program which has reached around $3,500 of its $5,000 goal. ....

And this is one of those times. Normally, it would start Wednesday the 3rd, but it s too warm, so the Pandemic Styled SocialICE, called Improv-ICE, announced some date improvising. This year the event will run February 6 - 14. The Downtown Rochester Alliance (RDA) says the annual ice festival which attracts estimated crowds of between 38,000 and 67,500 people will be known this time around as Improv-ICE. “COVID-19 has pushed everyone to get creative with their businesses, programs, and operations – developing something fun yet safe. Creating a feeling of togetherness at a distance,” says Holly Masek, executive director of the Rochester Downtown Alliance. “We’re leaning into the spirit of adaptation and improvisation that that the pandemic has demanded of us all. Hence: ‘Improv-ICE’, a one-time community ice event that celebrates Rochester’s continued creativity and resilience.” ....
