You just sit at your typewriter and bleed.â Iâve done enough creative writing to understand what old Papa meant. And Iâll add that when writing for local media, you sweat, too. Iâve said more than once that, for all the people Iâve contacted about 30x30, only one has been invited to the discussion, the Director of the Nebraska Game and Parks. Yesterday, Guy Mills, Jr. reminded me, that he, too, was asked to contribute to the discussion. In front of not only the Governor but also to a crowd of about 150 people! ....
Earth Day began in 1970. According to earthday.org, the mission is “to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide, working with more than 75,000 partners in over 190 countries to drive positive action for our planet.” This year, Earth Day is April 22. Lemme just say this. Itâs every day. This is on my mind because of the reading, research, discussions and writing Iâm involved with on EO 14008/30x30 (see A1). There have always been folks who have liked to tell other folks how to run their business. In the case of 30x30, Iâd like to invite those people who may think they know better ways of conserving soil, managing water, growing trees and âsaving the earthâ to come on out and learn from the folks who do it every day. ....
Have you heard this one? âOne day the wind stopped blowing in Nebraska. And we all fell down.â That day could have been Saturday! Luckily, instead of falling down, I was sitting in my living room, enjoying the absence of the roar of winds with gusts near 60 mph. I spent more time driving in those high winds than walking in them. Friday morning I drove the Chiefâs pickup with high topper to Kearney to pick up the X-tra. You may not see the X-tra in your mail until Monday, but for it to get there on time, we transmit files to Kearney Thursday afternoon. The X-tra is printed and ready for pickup Friday morning so we can get it to local post offices that afternoon. ....
