VOLUNTEERS and staff who have worked tirelessly to roll out Covid jabs have been commended. The High Sheriff of Cheshire Robert Mee has paid tribute to everyone involved in the county’s Covid-19 vaccination programme. Dr Andrew Wilson and Clare Watson, chairman and accountable officer of NHS Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), accepted a High Sheriff’s Award from Robert Mee DL on behalf of everyone involved in the local Programme. On a visit to the GP-led vaccination service in Middlewich, Mr Mee spoke of his admiration for the tireless work of health and care staff and reserved special praise for the vital role of volunteers. ....

Matron of planned care, Liz Gunsel, was the recipient of the milestone jab on Sunday. Liz said: I feel really relieved to have had my vaccine. I also feel that it is an assurance for my patients and family. The vaccine wouldn t have been approved if there were any safety concerns and I think the risks associated with Coronavirus are so severe that we really do need this vaccine. If I had any concerns then I wouldn t have had it but I am happy and relieved that I have. The vaccine was given to her by Sallie Kelsey, interim head of education, who said: It s been a huge team effort for us – and all of the vaccination centres. ....

A HEALTH chief has urged residents in Cheshire West and Chester to take up the opportunity of getting the Covid-19 vaccine. Speaking at a meeting of the council s outbreak board this week, Countess of Chester Hospital Trust CEO Dr Susan Gilby said that the hospital was currently vaccinating roughly 250 people per day, and was expecting to take delivery of 975 vaccine doses today (December 11). The Countess, which has 28 per cent of its beds occupied by Covid patients, was named as one of the 53 hospital vaccine hubs by the government, and gave its first inoculation to 92-year-old Mona Thomas, from Tarvin, yesterday. ....
