2 COVID-19 cases identified in Springfield schools unknown if students or teachers

Two people in Springfield schools tested positive for COVID-19, leading to 51 additional students and staff quarantining to prevent the potential for additional spread this week.
On Tuesday, the school district s nurse was notified by Lane County Public Health of two unrelated cases of COVID-19. One was at Centennial Elementary School and the other at Riverbend Elementary School.
The district would not say whether the positive cases were identified in students or staff, because the small size of these schools would make it easy to identify those individuals, district spokesperson Jen McCulley said.
However, the district said that 51 additional people were notified as being potential close contacts between the two schools. ....

PORTLAND The role that race should play in deciding who gets priority for the COVID-19 vaccine was put to the test Thursday in Oregon, but people of color won t be the specific focus in the next phase of the state s rollout as tensions around equity and access to the shots emerge nationwide.
An advisory committee that provides recommendations to Gov. Kate Brown and public health authorities discussed whether to prioritize racial minorities but decided on a wide range of other groups: those under 65 with chronic medical conditions, essential workers, inmates and people living in group settings. ....

Lane County Public Health administers on-hand vaccinations at two-day clinic
Lane County gave out the COVID-19 vaccines it still had on hand in a two-day, invitation-only drive-thru clinic that began Saturday in Eugene.
The county expected to inoculate 1,800 people Saturday and Sunday 800 people with the Moderna vaccine Saturday and 1,000 people with the Pfizer vaccine Sunday, according to Lane County Senior Public Health Officer Dr. Patrick Luedtke. Luedtke said Saturday he expected the county to expend all the vaccine it had on hand during the two days. He asked the clinic s location remain undisclosed for safety reasons.
We would all love to have more vaccine. And it s not just Lane County, I think the whole country wants more vaccine, Luedtke said. After tomorrow s event, we will have nothing left. We will learn Monday what we ll be resupplied with for the next week. ....
