PETALING JAYA: Since the pandemic started we have been hearing one word repeating itself on the Malaysian public healthcare system, and the word is shortage.
Saying this, Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) president Mohideen Abdul Kader (
pix) pointed out that we had a shortage of Covid-19 testing and the shortage of testing was worse outside of the capital.
“That is because Malaysia had not set up enough testing capacity across the country,” he said ina recent statement.
“In the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries, they responded fast enough to testing needs because they had a network of public and private labs to serve the public healthcare system, and which was available even in regional or rural cities.” ....

PETALING JAYA: A total of 266 people took their lives between March 19 and Oct 30 last year while there were 1,080 suicide attempts.
These figures provided by the Health Ministry are just the tip of the iceberg and are on the rise, the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) said today.
Its president Mohideen Abdul Kader
(pix) urged the government to incorporate suicide prevention in its Movement Control Order (MCO) plans.
“Government agencies were flooded with a total of 145,175 distress calls between 25 March 2020 and 20 May 2021,” he said in a statement. ....

CAP: Re-evaluate lifestyle amidst the Covid-19 pandemic

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians have been asked to re-evaluate and change their lifestyle and eating habits if needed as the nation had one of the highest risk factors of developing complications from Covid-19.
This is due to the high prevalence of non-communicable disease (NCD) such as diabetes, Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) president Mohideen Abdul Kader said today.
The World Health Organisation had stated that patients with cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, diabetes and cancer are more vulnerable to becoming severely ill when they get Covid-19.
“According to the Ministry of Health, Covid-19 patients with NCDs fare worse than others, with over 85% of those who died here having pre-existing conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure,” Mohideen said in a statement. ....
