KUALA LUMPUR: A High Court judicial commissioner set to preside over a 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) lawsuit has disclosed his ties with the sovereign wealth fund and a defendant in the case while maintaining his impartiality.
Lawyer Rosli Dahlan told The Star that JC Atan Mustaffa Yussof Ahmad had informed parties during case management that, prior to his appointment as a judicial commissioner and during his time in private practice, 1MDB had engaged his former law firm to act for it in a construction adjudication issue where it was being sued. However, the matter ultimately did not proceed and it was abandoned soon after their engagement, Rosli said when contacted here on Wednesday (June 9).

Kuala Lumpur: Former chief executive officer of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) told the High Court here that the 1MDB board of directors was involved in a ‘sandiwara’ (stage play) to conceal the overseas funds of the sovereign wealth fund belonged to Umno.
Tenth prosecution witness Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman said this when cross-examined by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s lawyer, Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohammed, in the former premier’s trial involving misappropriation of RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds.
When asked why he did not put on record during the 1MDB board meeting on Feb 27, 2014, that the overseas overseas supposedly belonged to Umno, the witness said “this was a scheme and this was not supposed to be put on record”.

KUALA LUMPUR: The RM2.2bil 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MBD) trial involving former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, which was initially scheduled to resume on Monday (May 3), has been put off due to Covid-19.
One of the lawyers in Najib s defence team, Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, confirmed that the trial had to be postponed.
He said Najib s appeal in the RM42mil SRC International Sdn Bhd case at the Court of Appeal was also affected. Both the SRC appeal and the 1MDB trial had to be vacated this week because a key member of our team has to be tested and quarantined due to close contact with a number of confirmed Covid-19 patients.
