In the joint talk organized by Centre for Work and Welfare (CWW), Impact Policy and Research Institute, New Delhi, Counterview and Working People’s Charter, Prof Dev Nathan said that a lot of trade is nowadays organized in the form of global value chains, and it’s important to know one’s role, and potential to upgrade within the global value chains. It is a critical issue for developing countries as they move from being Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to become Moderately Developed Countries (MDCs) further moving along the middle-income trajectory.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) A furious Donald J. Trump attempted to fire the Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, sources report.
According to the sources, Trump was so irate about the Supreme Court’s dismissal of his election challenge on Tuesday that he phoned Barrett directly to inform her that she was “history.”
“I hired you to get a job done, and you didn’t get it done,” Trump angrily informed Barrett. “You’re out of here.”
Sources say that Barrett had the unenviable task of informing Trump that Supreme Court Justices are appointed for life and therefore cannot be fired, a revelation that left Trump “flabbergasted.”
Australian Council of Trade Unions secretary Sally McManus described the Fair Work Amendment (Supporting Australia’s Jobs and Economic Recovery) Bill 2020 as “dangerous and extreme”. She compared it to former-prime minister John Howard’s attacks on unions and workplace rights under the WorkChoices legislation.
“WorkChoices allowed employers to cut wages, and this proposal will do that as well”, McManus said on December 8. “When WorkChoices was introduced [in 2006] employers rushed out to cut wages, the same will happen if this law passes. Some workers are still stuck with WorkChoices pay cuts some 13 years later.”
McManus said the bill, if made law, would hit young workers, casuals and insecure workers the hardest because it effectively further entrenches casualisation.
