This event will examine recent research on migration and mobility in Ghana and West Africa, and discuss its implications and future trajectory.
Four experts in the field will present completed and ongoing research on movement within and across regions and countries. The themes addressed include the movement of youth, the role of environmental change, and the significance of inter-rural migration as well as migration between urban areas and their hinterlands. Presenters will hold a discussion, which will touch on the potential impacts of recent events, particularly the Covid-19 pandemic, on such migration and mobility. Participants are invited to bring their questions to the discussion, which will aim to sketch out important directions for research in this field in the coming period. ....

Ada, 10 May 2021: In a unique move to build the dialogue capacities of stakeholders in the migration and diaspora landscape, GIZ Ghana, through its Programme Migration & Diaspora (PMD) and funding from the German Government, undertook a four-day multi-stakeholder dialogue training and diaspora engagement capacity building for key state and non-state actors in migration governance in Ghana.
The trainings are expected to build the collective leadership skills of the stakeholders in Ghana’s migration governance and diaspora engagement ecosystem to harness the collaborative skills and competencies of relevant actors. ....

Organisations cite flaws in assessment of Labour Department
The Labour Department perceives a drastic drop in the migrant labour community in the State after the last year’s lockdown based on an ongoing data upgradation drive.
At last count, the department has managed to trace only around 1.70 lakh migrant workers from across the State. That data is being collated primarily with the help of 102 district labour officers though volunteers are also being enlisted to enhance the pace and efficiency of the drive. ....
