Established in 1961, the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY) is devoted primarily to doctoral studies and awards most of CUNY s doctoral degrees. Frances Degen Horowitz, who died on March 15 at age 88. A prominent child psychologist, Horowitz served as The Graduate Center’s president from 1991 to 2005 and remained a member of the faculty until her retirement in 2010. She is widely admired for having the conviction and determination to move The Graduate Center from its original space in an office building on 42
