Court restrains Plateau govt from evicting Yan Keke traders

The Central Area Court 1, sitting at Kasuwan Nama, Jos, Plateau State, has restrained the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) from evicting Yan Keke traders, the occupiers of the JMDB shopping complex in the state capital.
The court had on March 26, 2021, ordered that the parties maintain the status quo pending the outcome from the hearing of the plaintiff’s motion on notice.
Alhaji Hamza Shuaibu, Mr. Okechukwu Ani, and three other plaintiffs are challenging the JMDB and two others against evicting them out of the shopping complex, on lease.
An earlier subsisting judgment of the Plateau State High Court presided over by Justice H. Othman, had in 2008 ordered that JMDB renew the lease of the complex to the plaintiffs. ....

A Central Area Court, sitting in Kasuwan Nama, in Jos on Tuesday, dissolved the union between Maryam Usman and Rabiu over the latter’s alleged deceit.
Delivering judgment, a panel of judges, presided by Ghazali Adam and Hyacenth Dolnanan, granted the divorce to the petitioner, Usman.
They held that Rabiu lied to her when he promised to provide for her and her children before marriage.
Earlier, Usman in her petition said:” Rabiu made empty promises to me. He lied that he would provide food and shelter for me and my children. ....

A Central Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama in Jos on Friday, sentenced a 15-year-old student, Bilal Ibrahim, to six months in prison for stealing two dogs.
A panel of two magistrates, Ghazali Adam and Hyacinth Dolnaan, who sentenced the teenager after he pleaded guilty to the offence, gave him an option to pay a fine of N20,000 or spend three months in prison.
The magistrates also ordered the convict to pay N50,000 in damages and in default to spend another three months in prison.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported at the Angwan Rogo Police Station on January 21, by Hamisu Idris of Angwan Rogo Jos, the complainant. ....
