BELFAST – Our Town Belfast is seeking proposals from local artists to create and install designs in one of five downtown crosswalks. Selected artists will receive a $600 stipend for the design and installation. The goal of the project is to add artwork to five of the city’s downtown crosswalks while increasing visibility and safety and creating visual interest.
The project was inspired by previous related projects downtown. For many years the crosswalk from the Colonial Theatre to City hall has been painted with “movie stars.” In 2017 the Pedestrian, Biking, and Hiking Committee (PBHC) installed paintings of chicken feet in the two crosswalks from Main Street to Washington St. ....

RANGELEY The Maine Forestry Museum has received a $3,000 grant from the Maine Expansion Arts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to help sponsor the Little Miss and Mister Woodchip Contest and events associated with the museum’s annual Logging Festival Days.
“This grant will help continue the 35-year tradition of providing children the opportunity to perform the recitation of poems or singing before a local audience,” said Mark Beauregard, president. “The winners will be featured in the annual Logging Festival Parade the following day. The contest has allowed children to expand their skills and develop confidence in spoken word and song.” ....

MCF awards $59K in arts grants to more than a dozen recipients

The Maine Community Foundation’s Maine Expansion Arts Fund has awarded 13 grants totaling $59,250 to support indigenous, ethnic or rural arts programs or projects, particularly those serving areas with limited access to arts events.
Recipients include the Down East Singers in Rockport, which was awarded $2,205 to produce a virtual concert, in collaboration with Bay Chamber Concerts and Halcyon String Quartet.
Another is the Eastport Arts Center. It was awarded $5,000 to improve its lobby entrance to ensure a safer, more efficient and more welcoming visitor experience.
The Maine Expansion Arts Fund is a collaborative effort of the National Endowment for the Arts, Lillian Berliawsky Charitable Trust, Maine Community Foundation and Maine Arts Commission to strengthen and ensure the future of Maine’s artistic traditions. ....
