Updated July 28 Ira Allen, 83, rockabilly and country music legend Allen grew up in the Norway/South Paris area and is a member of the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame. Photo courtesy of his family Ira Allen, a rockabilly and country musician who was inducted into the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame, died July 25 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 83. Allen was best known for the 1962 classic country song, “Just Enough To Keep Me Hangin’ On,” which he co-wrote with Buddy Mize. Allen was remembered this week for his signature smooth voice and professionalism. His motto, which will be engraved on his headstone, was “It’s not about me. It’s not about you. It’s about the music.” ....

(where Bob and his wife spent many winters and loved them), lost his courageous battled against an aggressive form of small cell lung cancer on June 28, 2021 at his home with his loving wife by his side. Bob was born in Athol, Mass. on March 12, 1935. He later moved to Sanford and attended school there. He enlisted in the United State Army when he was 17, and he attended Airborne School in Georgia where he was presented his Airborne Wings. His first tour while in the army was to Japan but while he was there his orders were changed and he was sent to Korea. After he finished his time there he was sent back to Japan.
