First Cape shark sighting of the season off Provincetown: Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (It s a Basking Shark) Posted on The sharks are back roaming along the Cape shoreline. The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy on Thursday reported its first basking shark sighting off Provincetown’s Herring Cove Beach this season. Although great white shark sightings are increasing every year along the Cape, they are not the only large shark off the Massachusetts coast. The basking shark is the second largest fish in the ocean, and is often confused with white sharks, especially as their large dorsal fin often can be seen above the water.

Maritime Shorts Oyster lease approved  BAR HARBOR After a multi-year application process that was further hampered by COVID-19, the Maine Department of Resources has approved a 10-year standard aquaculture lease for a 3.36-acre site in Western Bay. Matt Gerald of Western Bay Oyster Co. has been farming the site under a limited purpose aquaculture lease obtained in 2015. The site is near the head of Mount Desert Island, south of Old House Cove in Western Bay and near Windaway Lane. Gerald will cultivate oysters year-round using suspended and bottom culture techniques.     DEP grant awarded   MOUNT DESERT Maine voters approved a bond package in 2018 that included $5 million dollars for infrastructure improvements at municipal stream crossings.

Rare Yellow Lobster Named Banana Caught off Coast of Maine   I have written in the past about the discovery of some rare blue lobsters that have been found but I have never seen a yellow one.  Marley Babb, a Tenants Harbor lobsterman caught this special fellow off the coast of Maine according to newscentermaine.com.  The lobster is so special that Babb contacted the Maine Department of Marine Resources. The University of New England has been sharing a grant with the Maine Department of Resources and it was decided that the University of New England will house Banana, the yellow lobster.
