TOP DOG New Venture Championship winners for 2021 announced


First place team
A total of $7,500 in cash and prizes was awarded during the TOP DOG New Venture Championship at Louisiana Tech University. Awards were given to the top three finishers as well as for entrepreneurial spirit.
This past October, teams developed ideas and competed in the TOP DOG Idea Pitch. After the pitch, student teams had the option to continue with their ideas and build an investor deck to enter the preliminary round of the New Venture Championship. During the final round in May, seven multi-disciplinary teams advanced to compete in the TOP DOG New Venture Championship.

Peryton Drone: Cyber/Electrical Engineering major Daniel Kumler and Business Management and Entrepreneurship major Cade Spikes won first place and $3,000 with a device that combines flying and driving into one drone in a singular lightweight package. ....

Drive through most Connecticut communities on trash pickup day, and you’ll discover two containers in front of many homes. One is for run-of-the-mill garbage. The other is for recycling.
Obviously, most communities would prefer that their citizens recycle as vigorously as possible. In Stamford, Conn., for example, leaders know that citywide about 28 percent of the trash is recycled. That may be useful information, but far more helpful is to know how much trash is recycled neighborhood by neighborhood. “Certain communities will recycle over 60 percent,” says Jay Fountain, chair of the Fiscal Committee of the Stamford Board of Representatives. “Others will recycle from 5 to 10 percent.” ....

Pointing to the ballooning national debt, GOP lawmakers said the state and local aid provision is an unnecessary part of a liberal wish list that would disproportionately benefit blue states that were quicker than red ones to shut down their economies and suffered larger financial loses.
They want to send wheelbarrows of cash to state and local bureaucrats to bail out mismanagement from before the pandemic, Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Wednesday.  They re changing the previous bipartisan funding formula in ways that will especially bias the money toward big blue states. ....
