Aussie wages lift just 1.5 per cent in 12 months Australian wages have lifted just 0.6 per cent over the past quarter and 1.5 per cent over the past 12 months, new data from the Wage Price Index (WPI) has revealed. Those in the private sector received slightly more (0.6 per cent) in their paypacket than those in the public sector, which lifted just 0.4 per cent. Electricity, gas, water and waste services, rental, hiring and real estate services and Arts and recreation services each recorded the lowest quarterly rise of 0.1 per cent. Wages lift 0.6pc over March quarter Share Industries experiencing improved business conditions that reviewed pandemic pay freezes contributed to 0.6 per cent wages growth over the March quarter, bringing annual growth to 1.5 per cent. Wages growth remains soft overall, but the result was slightly stronger than the 0.5 per cent increase economists expected, and 0.1 per cent higher over the year than in the previous quarter. Accommodation and food services recorded the highest quarterly wage rise at 1.2 per cent in the March quarter, driven largely by decisions of the Fair Work Commission. Cole Bennetts “The lift in wages growth is consistent with the tightening labour market,” Commonwealth Bank economist Kristina Clifton said, adding that with bonuses, annual wages growth was actually about 1.8 per cent. ....
